Papadopoulou breaks hammer throw juniors record for Greece

Adriana
Papadopoulou, 19, set the first national record of the outdoor season for
Greece, throwing 63.56m during the first day of the Greek Clubs championships,
which are held in six groups around the country. Konstantinos Filippidis
returned to track after the end of a 2-year suspension period with 5.20m
in the pole vault, while Styliani Pilatou opened the season with 6.43m
in the long jump.
During
the second day of the champs, Chrysopigi Devetzi jumped 14.10m, while Styliani
Papadopoulou improved her hammer throw season's best to 70.00m[Results]

Cup Winter Throwing

Estonia's
reignining Olympic Champion Gerd Kanter opened the season with 69.70m in
the island of Tenerife, where the European Cup Winter Throwing took place
during weekend.Polish Anita Wlodarszyk impressed with her 75.05 attempt
in the women's hammer throw.
Georgios
Geromarkakis was the best Greek performer of the Cup, getting the second
place in the Under 23 men's shot put with 18.17m. Alexandros Papadimitriou
was 5th in the hammer throw with 75.19m, Styliani Papathopoulou 10th in
women's event where Alexandra Papageorgiou also placed 15th. Dorothea Kalpakidou
was 17th in the discus throw, while Stefanos Konstas was 15th in the men's

Yesterday,
the 1st World Indoor Military Cup held in Athens, atlhough the low participation
did not permit the organization of the most women's events [Results]

Bayer
smashes long jump record with 8.71m

long jumper Sebastian Bayer, 23, was the super star of the last day of
the European Indoor Championships, where he managed an unbelievable attempt
at 8.71m a new European Record of the event. The historical record came
on the last round, few minutes before the closure of the championships,
when Bayer was already on the top of the competition with a national record
at 8.29m.
Ariane
Friedrich dominated the high jump final with 2.01m, one among the better
performances of the final day of the European Championships, while Vlacic
didn't manage sonething better than fifth place.
In
the other events Russia won more gold medals today with Yuriy Borzhakovskyi
in the 800m (1.48.55), Yevgenyia Polyakova in the 60m with 7.18, Mariya
Savinova in the 800m with a world leading 1.58.10, Anastasyia Taranova
in the triple jump with 14.68m. and the women's relay team. Mikk Pahapill
dominated the heptathlon offering the second gold for Estonia in this championship,
while reigning Olympic Champion Tomazs Majewski won for Poland the shot
put gold with 21.02m. Experienced Portuguese Rui Silva dominated the men's
1500m with 3.44.38, Ethiopian born Degfa Bekele won for Turkey the women's
3000m with 8.46.50 and the new blood of French pole vault Renaud Levillenie
is the new european champion with 5.81m. Italy got the men's relay race
thanks to the amazing race of Claudio Licciardelo.

Dwain Chambers after breaking the european record yesterday, won the gold
medal with 6.46. One year after his return from doping suspension, following
his involvement in the biggest ever doping scandal, he starts again a new
medals' collection, as he returned the old ones. Obviously, this time based

Chambers
set European Record in the 60m semifinals. Four golds fro Russia

Britain's
Dwain Chambers ran a european record mark 6.42 in the 60m semifinals, the
most impressing performance of the second day of the european indoor championships
and seems ready for an impressing final tomorrow.
In
the final events of the day Russia won four gold medals with Yulyia Golubchikova
(4.75m in the pole vault), Antonina Krivishapka (51.18 in the 400m), Anna
Alminova (4.07.76 in the 1500m) and Ivan Ukhov (2.32m in the high jump).
Italy's Fabrizio Donato won the triple jump with a world leading 17.59m,
Britain's Mo Farah dominated the men's 3000m with 7.40.17, Estonia Ksenija
Balta set a world leading mark of 6.87m to win the long jump and Sweden's
Johan Wissman won the 400m with also a world leading 45.89

Ioannou wins silver, excellent performance by Kostas Baniotis

Kostantinos
Baniotis in the high jump final was the best Greek performer of the second
day of the championships. Baniotis set a personal best with a leap at 2.29m
and got the sixth place of the event, achievening that hight with the third
attempt. With some more luck he could be on the pondium as Cypriot Kyriakos
Ioannou who won the silver cleared also 2.29m. Antonia Stegiou in the women's
qualification round cleared 1.85m and did not make the final, while once
more Luis Tsatoumas spead pure dissapointement in the long jump qualification
round.
