Georgios ROUMBANIS 

Georgios Roumbanis was the 1956 Bronze medal winner of the Pole Vault in Melbourne, with a jump at 4, 50 m. He was born at 1929 in Tripolis. He started practising Pole Vault at his 22, being a basketball player and a boxer first. He was an athlete of Panhellenios G.C. At 1952 he left for the U.S.A. in order to study and started training with the famous Pole Vault coach Payton Jordan. Since then, and until 1958, he broke the National Record for Greece 9 times and he broke twice the European Record. The first was in California at 1957 (4,55 m.) and the second in Munich at 1958 (4,60 m.). He stopped being an athlete at 1961.
