Chrysopigi
Devetzi fully justified the admire and respect she has won in the last
years getting the bronze medal in the triple jump final in Beijing. Devetzi,
who was second in Athens Olympics and also second in Osaka's World Championships
proved again the most reliable Greek athlete of the last years. Tonight
she improved her season's best to 15.23m to get the bronze, while Cameroon's
Francois Mbango won again the gold with 15.39m. The Athens Olympic Champion
reappeared this season after four years to defend successfully her crown.
Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva won the silver medal.
Devetzi's achievement
comes two days after the collapse of one more national hero: Athens Olympic
Champion Fani Chalkia was tested positive... The Greek officers have no
comment on this, althought today SEGAS expressed sorrow and declared
its avalability to support more intense anti-doping measures by the government.....
Let's see when all these
persons, from the political and the athletics authorities, are going to
actively apologize for our national abasement....
Let's enjoy the Games
12.08.2008
The
magnificent opening ceremony and the impressing performances by Chinese
and Americans in the first days of the Games attract the eyes of millions
worldwide. The was in the frontiers of Europe, the situation of the human
rights in China, the occupation of Thibet, but also the new drugs incidents
are not ale to shadow the biggest sports and cultural event…
In Greece we face with the same problem once more. The best European 200m runner last year, Tasos Gousis was this time the athlete who destroyed the joy of the Games. At the same time some of the biggest Russian women runners are not allowed to compete in Beijing accused of using banned substances. Every day more names from different countries. At least names of those found, based on the current technical possibilities of the anti-doping international agencies…
This war should never stop, but be continued and expanded to all possible ways: the bigs and the smalls, the strongs and those politically powerless. Probably some of the Beijing Champions will be known enough later, probably after some years…
Thanou won’t compete too. The IOC decision probably lacks of legislative justification. But who doubts that is morally documented? When you want to do something for your country, first you should not make your people feeling so insulted.
Sometimes the silence, even the disappearance is much better for the defamed one
Athletics start at the end of the week. Some reigning Olympic champions won’t be there. Some others are trying to defend their medals and maybe more new names will enter the scene. No precaution, no suspect can reduce the enthusiasm of watching an athletics competition. Let’s enjoy the Games, even been precautious. Or maybe precaution is the best way to enjoy them in depth.
