August 20, 1998: Olga Vasdeki wins European Triple Jump title.
Olga Vasdeki, who was 5th in Atlanta and 4th in Athens, managed to get the golden medal in an exciting European Championships final, with a jump at 14, 55 m. against a 14, 53 m. of Kasparkova and 14, 50 m. of Marinova. This was the second golden European Outdoor medal ever for Greece, after Anna Verouli's triumph in the Javelin of the Athens '82 championships.
August 1, 1998: Giorgos Panayotopoulos runs the 100 m. in 10" 19.
Giorgos Panayotopoulos set a PB with 10"19. in the 100 m. race of the International Meeting of Patra, where Georgia Tsiliggiri passed over 4, 01 m. NR, Heleni Tsentemeidou equalled twice the Shot Put NR for Greece (18, 53 m.) and Kevin Braunskill of the U.S. won the 200 m. race with 20" 37.
August 1, 1998:  Ioannis Barlis 4th in Annecy.
Ioannis Barlis was 4th in the Hammer Throw with 68, 36 m.  Dimitris Pietris (110 m. hurdles)  and the men 4X400 team qualified for the final races, while Alexandra Komnou equalled the110 hurdles NJR for Greece with 13" 87. but failed to qualify for the final. For the results, follow this link.
July 31, 1998: Periklis Iakovakis is the World Juniors Champion of 400 m. hurdles
Periklis Iakovakis became today the first Greek gold medallist in the history of World Juniors Champs. He won the final race of 400 m. hurdles with 49" 82,  NJR and 1998 world leader. Meanwhile, Ioannis Barlis won the second qualification group of the hammer throw and qualified easily for the final and Olga Kaidatzi also qualified for the semifinals of 200 m. with 24" 02. NJR. July 29, 1998: Tsiouris 5th in Annecy
 Thanassis Tsiouris, the Greek junior 100 m. NR holder was 5th in the World Junior Championships that are held in Annecy, while Greece's big star Perikles Iakovakis qualified easily for the 400 m. Hurdles final.
July 27, 1998: Olympic Meeting of Salonica
In the "Olympic" G. Lambrakis memorial meeting of Salonica, Svetlana Goncharenko set a personal best with 22" 46 in 200 m, while the Brazilian Parella won the 400 m. race with 45" 27. In this race Costas Kenteris set a national record for Greece with 45" 60, winning Sunday Bada and Davis Camoga. Wilson Boit Kipketer was the winner of the steeple race with  8' 15" 22.

July 17-19, 1998: The Greek Championships
The first day of the 84th Men's and 63rd women's Greek Champs included spectacular wins by Charis Papadias (100 m. -10" 21.), Olga Vasdeki (Triple Jump -14, 54 m.) and Perikles Iakovakis (400 m. H. 50" 49.). A lot of good performances were achieved in some of the fastest races in Greece ever, as well as in the field events.
On the second day Christos Polychroniou set a national record in the hammer throw with 78, 92 m., while Christina Panagou equalized her own record of 400 m.
On the last day the Cypriot Prodromos Katsantonis won the 200 m. with a NR at 20" 37., which is the best European mark for this year, followed by Giorgos Panagiotopoulos (20" 41, 3rd European performance for 1998). Dimitris Kokotis won the high jump with 2,32, and equalled the best European performance for 1998.

July 4-5, 1998: National Records by Tsiouris and Kaidantzi in the Juniors Champs of Volos
Thanassis Tsiouris, the Junior sprinter that has impressed with his performances this year managed to break Pavlakakis' 100 m. Juniors NR for Greece at the Juniors Champs of Volos, running with a headwind. The new mark is 10" 44. Tsiouris now aims for the final in Annecy, at the World Junior Champs. Also, Olga Kaidantzi, broke the 200 m. Junior mark with 24" 07., while Maria Tsirba came very close to a new 3 Km record, with her 9' 43" 01. Perikles Iakovakis, the World's second best this year in the 400 m. Hurdles, stumbled at a hurdle during the race and lost the national record he was aiming for, as well as the medal.

June 20-21, 1998: Vasdekis returns with a 7, 97 m. jump
 In Pireaus, the Greek Under 23 Champs were held with a lot of good performances. Spyros Vasdekis competed after a long time of absence in the long jump (out of competition) and jumped 7, 97 m.

June 13-14, 1998: Christina Kokkotou breaks NR for Greece with 47' 08" 25. in the 10 Km. Walk
 In the Balkan Games, Christina Kokkotou walked in 47' 08" 25. to finish 2nd and break the NR for Greece. Christina Panag
